Kids Sewing 101: Pillow Case



Students will make a pillowcase using the “magic burrito” method and French seams.  


Students will learn:
*the basics of sewing, tools, and their use
*safety precautions and ironing 

 

*Basic sewing machine operations: threading, which bobbins to use, & how to thread a bobbin. *Basics of sewing machine trouble shooting.
*How to sew straight lines and do back stitching.
*How to sew around corners and pivot. 

 


If time allows, students will also learn about rotary cutters, mats, rulers and how to use them safely.


Class Kit Includes: 

3/4 yard cotton (main fabric)
1/3 yard cotton (band of pillowcase)
2 inch accent strip

Students need to bring to class:
* a sewing machine in good working order with bobbins (and manual).  
* sewing scissors
* straight pins
* marking pen or pencil
* quality 100% cotton thread
* tape measure (optional)
* seam ripper (optional)



 

Kids will have a 15 minute snack break.  

 

You will be required to fill out a permission slip upon arrival, thank you.
